Brigade History:

The 12th Special Forces Brigade 'Azov' is a military unit of the National Guard of Ukraine.

The brigade was established on May 5, 2014, in Berdyansk as a special police patrol battalion, which became part of the National Guard of Ukraine.

'Azov' defended Mariupol in 2014, participated in battles near Ilovaisk and Maryanka, and carried out missions in the ATO zone. The unit successfully conducted the Pavlopil-Shyrokyne Operation and routed the enemy near the Svitlodarsk Bulge in 2015.

During the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Azov Brigade became the center of the defense of Mariupol and subsequently heroically held the Azovstal Steel Works. In 2023, the brigade participated in battles in the Orekhiv area, then in the Liman area.
